When you subscribe to a new dish TV service, you have several choices on installation. You can pay the company a service fee to do the installation, you can hire an independent contractor, or you can do it yourself. If you are relatively handy with tools and follow the instruction that come with the dish, you can do this yourself. This will not only save money, but you are likely to take better care of your property than someone else.

Step 1

Determine the best location and direction to install the dish. You may be able to determine the proper direction and angle by talking to neighbors who have a similar service and copying what they have. If not, there are sites where you can enter your location and get the proper direction and angle.

Step 2

Mark the location of the bracket holes on the brick wall in the location you have determined. Drill a pilot hole through the upper left hole in the bracket using the masonry bit. If you don't have a hammer drill, just allow the masonry bit to make its own speed; don't force it. Ensure that the bracket is perfectly level and plumb using a small level. Drill the other three pilot holes.

Step 3

Insert the anchors into the holes. Tap into place with the hammer. Insert four lag bolts, 5/16 by 1 1/2 inches, into the anchors and tighten. You have now mounted the dish bracket on a brick wall. Continue mounting the supporting pole and dish following directions that came with the dish.

• 5/16-inch masonry bit
• Small level
• 4 concrete anchors, 5/16 by 1 1/2 inches
• 4 lag bolts, 5/16 by 1 1/2 inches
• Hammer

Tip

• It may be easier to mark your pilot holes with a small pointed chisel before drilling.

Warning

• Make absolutely sure the bracket is plumb and level before drilling the remaining three holes.
